Help for Trauma/PTSD

Experiencing and suffering from trauma is exhausting and painful to manage alone. It can feel lonely, confusing, and frustrating. Know that there are supportive solutions to help you recover from trauma and begin to experience connection to yourself and others, and gain a sense of serenity in your life.

As your therapist, I offer supportive skill-building through teaching emotion regulation skills and mindfulness to first help manage the symptoms that you are experiencing as a result of trauma. Symptoms such as… nightmares, intrusive memories, dissociation, mood fluctuations, relational difficulties, anger, and more. I realize that we cannot make progress together until we have worked together to learn appropriate coping skills first before delving into the deeper, more painful memories and experiences of the past.

Once we have worked together to establish supportive tools to help with the symptoms that are causing immediate distress, I offer narrative therapy where we will get to explore the past through your lens and help to unravel your experiences to make these memories less painful and intrusive. If this style does not seem to fit with your needs, I am also trained in Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). This is a fancy term that means that we will work to target specific memories that cause distress, the memory pathways that these memories are looped to, and help the mind to process these memories so that they are less intense and disruptive in your daily life. I am certified as a Level I EMDR Practitioner through the EMDRIA Institute. Please visit the EMDRIA website for more information on EMDR as a therapy and to get a sense for if this might be the right option for you.

First, think. Second, dream. Third, believe. And finally, dare.

Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times if only one remembers to turn on the light.

The seed of suffering in you may be strong, but don’t wait until you have no more suffering before allowing yourself to be happy.
